Grassland communities are dominated by either tussac gress Poa flabellata, which can grow more than 2 m in height and is the tallest plant on the island, or tufted fescue Festuca contracta. The most common forb is the greater burnet Acaena magellanica, which is found in desne patches.  Greater rush Juncus scheuchzeroides and brown rush Rostkovia magellanica  are the most common and dominant species within the mires and boags.  Introduced species are predominantly found around the old whaling stations and other areas where human disturbance is high.
